Amidst the many issues concerning the environment, there are several ordinances regulated by the government in order to address problems bombarding the natural world. The advent of such ecological alternatives paved the way for green jobs and careers to prosper and continually grow in demand and necessity. One of these opportunities is for arborists or also known as arboriculturalists or tree surgeons.

An arborist is someone whose profession is in line with the maintenance and management of trees particularly shade or ornamental trees. This type of job could be closely related with loggers or foresters but the essence as well as the scope of their work is far too different from those in these two categories. Arborists deal generally with perennial woody plants, vines and shrubs among others. They are more inclined to the safety and health issues of such trees as well as some wooded landscapes and not mere wood harvesting or forest management as a whole.

What does an arborist do?

Some of the basic scope of work and responsibilities of an arborist distinctly sets them apart from other forest or plant-related careers and jobs. Here are some of the work descriptions attributed to qualified and certified arborists as a green job professional.

o As it may include a wide range of trees, from a simple to more complex components situated in ecological communities, arborists monitor and give necessary treatment to trees thus ensuring their safety and healthy. Included in this category are planting, pruning, transplanting and structural support as well as diagnosis and treatment of known tree parasitism and other predatory activities on trees.

o Planning, consultation and writing reports or legal testimonies for office-based arborists while some other jobs are required in the field such as climbing trees. Overall, arborists have work variations from office to manual or hands-on responsibilities.

Who are qualified for the job?

Being an arborist requires an individual to undergo trainings and courses to qualify for the job and thus earn certifications for credibility and eligibility as well. The basic component to be successful is the primary passion and love for trees and related elements associated to them. Here are some of the ways in order to qualify for the job.

o Take a two-year or four-year program from special colleges that offer horticulture or arboriculture courses or degrees which you could find listed in the National Arborist Association website.

o Become a member of the NAA or American Society of Consulting Arborists or ASCA after taking additional experience and training courses. A certification from the International Society of Arboriculture may be your utmost recognition to prosper in this milieu.

Green jobs are naturally helpful not only for individuals who wish to develop in their chosen profession or careers, but these are likewise very necessary and helpful to the ailing environment that needs much care and attention. An arborist is a professional that gives hope and maintains the natural beauty and grandeur of nature that only healthy and abundant trees could ever offer the surroundings.
