Just before we look at what promotional merchandise are out there for this year's World Cup in South Africa we have to get one thing completely straight. And I apologise to those of you who already are aware of this. You should not under any conditions print the official logo on any business items, promotional merchandise or anything else unless you are an official sponsor or you are manufacturing promotional products for a customer of yours who is.

Each time a large event like this or the Olympics comes around there are almost always armies of people organized to make illegal duplicates of everything associated with the event. However over the past ten years or so sponsors have begun to fight back. Many of them have invested in some very costly advertisements warning individuals that they will not hesitate to take them to court if they infringe any aspect of their extremely costly sponsorship deal

In past times millions of products such as printed T-shirts, promotional bottled water and even leather conference folders were confiscated and destroyed in a blitz on fraudulent trading. It is hardly surprising when you think that these organisations are spending literally millions of pounds on sponsorship with a good part of that being used to produce business gifts or corporate clothing.

OK so that's the lecture over now let us see what promotional goods are on offer for this year's World Cup. Well the regular old favourites of printed T-shirts, embroidered polo shirts and promotional baseball caps certainly head the list as far as promotional merchandise is concerned. And undoubtedly there will be millions and millions of the usual suspects like promotional keyrings, printed mugs, cheap plastic pens and so on. Promotional face paints have become very popular over the past decade and the addition of stick on skin transfers have made these promotional products even more popular.

The range of promotional soccer balls has once again increased and the wide variety of coatings and print techniques is really astonishing. There is simply nothing that can't be printed onto the surface of one of these excellent promotional products. Promotional Lanyards that can hold mobile phones or even promotional bottled water are already exceptionally popular because they are relatively inexpensive yet pretty visible so companies like that combination. Promotional Flash drives are also on top of the list for corporations with a marginally larger budget. Noisemakers will dominate the less costly sector of the market with plastic-type trumpets and promotional whistles topping the most commonly purchased products.

Corporate clothing will also be very popular, the local climate will be warm for the finals however some of the earlier rounds are being held at altitude where the temperature might drop in the evening. Therefore you will probably see quite an interest in light promotional jackets in addition to printed T-shirts and embroidered polo shirts.

Whatever decision you make for your World Cup promotional items do if possible order it as soon as you can. The sooner the order is in the pipeline the better the chance you have of getting it delivered in time. If you are shipping promotional goods out to South Africa rather than distributing them in your own local market be aware that the Import Customs red tape could be extremely complicated and products can often be held up for quite a while. The last thing you will want is to have your goods arriving a few days after the event is over.
