Most people have a basic idea about abdominal exercises and workouts, but the diet you need to eat to get a six pack is often neglected. If you want to get a great stomach, then you need to do the exercises in addition to getting the right nutrition provided by a solid abs diet plan.
You may already know that protein is what builds muscle mass and that you need to get more of it when gaining muscle (this is often talked about in bodybuilding magazines and blogs). But how much do you need?
When building abs, it's recommended that you eat 1.5 grams per pound of your body weight. And you should eat an additional 20 g's before and after a workout. This is because your body needs more protein to repair itself and build new muscle.
Whilst many people outcast carbs and say that you should avoid them at all costs, you do still need them! Without carbohydrate your bodies energy levels will crash and it won't be able to build more muscle! To work out how much you need, you should take your body weight and divide it by 2 and this is how much you should eat in grams.
Fat is also important when your trying to get a six pack. And again many people preach that this should not be part of your diet at all. But the truth is that without fats your bodies functions will stop working and this will stop your body from gaining muscle and repairing itself. So multiply your bodyweight by 0.2 and this is the amount of grams of fat you need to eat.
What many people don't understand when it comes to getting six pack abs, is that you don't always need to do abs exercises like sit ups, leg raises and crunches, you just need to lose belly fat. If you got rid of the fat covering your abdominals then you would get the 6 pack that you desire. The amount of bodyfat you put on tends to be in direct correlation to how many calories you consume each day. For this abs diet you should eat around 10 calories for every pound of your bodyweight.
If you don't have any stomach fat and just want to get more defined toned abs, then stick to the calories advised by the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). This will give you enough to build your abs muscles up.
When doing any diet, it's a good idea to break it every few weeks or so. This ensures that your metabolism doesn't crash from the radical change in your diet and nutritional intake. It also prevents you from getting really fed up and stopping the diet altogether which is the worst thing you can do. If at any time you do find yourself wavering from your eating plan, just put yourself back on the path and continue.
With the nutritional information I just provided you with, you have more than enough to design your own diet plan and start your quest to get a six pack. So long as you stick to this guide and do regular workouts, then you'll have no problem getting the body you want.
