In his New York Times best selling series Rich Dad Poor Dad author Robert Kiyasaki spends time speaking about many of the things that helped him become a successful author, businessman, and person. In one of his very candid chapters he spends time explaining the difference between belief and trust.

Kiyosaki talks about his time in Vietnam serving as a helicopter pilot flying missions over the battlefields of Vietnam. He says that there were many times that he would sit on the platform of the aircraft carrier that he was on and have a conversation with his Creator. He stated that he would ask for some kind of reassurance that he was fit and able to fly his helicopter and take sufficient care of the men entrusted to him. He said that it was before these missions during his conversations with his Creator that he came to realize the difference between belief and trust.

He came to understand that there are many people who believe in something, but it was before and during the dangerous life threatening missions that he flew that he really came to understand trust. He explains it this way.

He said that it's easy to believe in something and just do lip service to it. Lip service will only go so far when things become difficult and your belief is pushed to the limit. When we only believe in something it's easy to jump ship and go on to the next best thing to believe in.

Trust on the other hand is something that will go into the battle with you. When you truly trust in a Creator, your ability, your vision, the people you need to count on, then there comes with that trust a sense of peace in making the right choice.

Trust is something that can see you through the tough times. Trust is also something that requires that you give up control to some extent. Everyone has their opinion and their beliefs. All of us must have our beliefs, but we must also know the things and people that we trust in our lives and do our best to continue to grow that trust.

Kiyosaki said that belief alone would not have given him the ability to fly his missions with the confidence required to do the job right and bring his men home safe. It was his responsibility and without a deep seated trust it could not have been done.

Kiyasaki suggests that the thing that makes life special is to find the people, teachings, vision that you can trust in and give them your full energy and support. Trust made a wonderful difference for this best selling author. It can do the same for you.

While belief is important, trust is essential,
