Let me be clear. I understand that there are many people who really struggle and might not be able to do anything about being overweight. I also realize that many of the overweight issues that we have in this country stem from the fact that many people eat poorly and do not exercise and get moving.

A vaccine for obesity. It's fine to help those who really struggle with this issue and can't do anything about it. My problem comes with offering the same help for those who are just too darn lazy to get off of their back ends and do something about it.

Here in lies the problem. There is a growing number of our population that wants a quick fix and wants to do as little work as possible to earn the reward. Oh sure, there are still many that do not go to this altar for their worship, but there is a growing number who willingly visit the "do little or nothing and get the same reward as anyone else" church.

Some of the momentum for this movement might have started a few years back with the machine that would allow you to simply lay down and get a workout without lifting a muscle. There's something missing in the machine and in the whole get in shape without getting off your butt philosophy. Simply put it's this. Movement creates power and excitement. Movement gets us going mentally, emotionally and physically.

I understand that we all have our times when it might be more difficult to get our bodies into action. It happens to all of us. We have our moods. We have our lazy times. In the end we can always realize that we can make ourselves feel better when we make a decision to get up and get it going.

As long as I'm on my rant here's another thought. Television and video games do not qualify as movement and only serve to more deeply embed us in a mental and physical immobility that can only stifle and eventually kill our creativity and our productivity.

A vaccine for obesity. What next? Soon we might be able to create a way for someone to do our exercise for us. They do the work and we get the benefit. We could then classify ourselves as completely helpless.

Don't let it happen. Stay active and creative.
