There are many industries across the globe whose productivity depends on the use of very sophisticated machinery, and part of the routine maintenance for this machinery involves the use of an oil test lab. There are actually a great variety of reasons for testing and observing the condition of these oils, such as the critical information it can provide to those in charge of caring for expensive industrial machines.
One of oil's number one uses is to act as a lubricant for the rapidly moving parts that exist inside many machines, to reduce the amount of friction that builds up between those moving parts and the great deal of wear it causes. It is good to know that the specific fluid that is used for this purpose remains in the condition necessary to adequately perform its duty, so a sample of it might be tested see whether or not it is holding up to the pressure. If the fluid seems to be broken down or full of an excessive amount of metal debris from worn machine parts, it could mean that a higher grade of oil is needed.
Finding an unexpected amount of metal debris could also mean a few other things that are generally an indicator that all is not well within the machine. This metal debris comes in the form of thousands of small particles and are the result of metal parts wearing out and breaking down, so if there is more than there should be, it means that the parts are wearing out faster than expected. There are other contaminants that can be found in oils also, such as other fluids that may have leaked into it through a crack or damaged seal somewhere in the machine.
By having these oils tested, the people responsible for maintaining the machines are provided with a great deal of information that can lead them right to the trouble areas and help them determine what must be done to fix them. For example, if the test shows that there is any amount of engine fuel in the oil samples, the maintenance crew will know to check all the seals and connections around the machine's fuel system.
Maintenance members and any others who are in charge of caring for these machines will make frequent use of an oil test lab for endlessly monitoring those machines. Doing so will give them a huge advantage when it comes to keeping their machines in the best conditions and running as smoothly as the day they were built.
