A notary stamp or embosser (which is capable of photographic reproduction) is required in California. Every state sets its own rules and laws for the notaries. Most California notaries use an inked stamp while some use an embosser in addition to their notary stamps for increased fraud protection. California notaries are required to keep their seal in a secure location (under lock and key) when not in use. Desks with lock and key, safe and lock boxes, or larger safes are all options to ensure all notary supplies are kept safe at all times. Venders who want to manufacture California notary public seals must first be issued a permit by the Secretary of State in order to legally produce California notary public seals regardless of the type or location of the manufacturer. Each manufacturer is assigned an identification number that must be included as an integral part of each California notary public seal produced.

A Certificate of Authorization to produce or manufacturer a seal shall contain the same number as is assigned to the California notary public. The certificate may authorize the production or manufacture of more than one seal with respect to a given notary public. California notary seal stamps and embossers are custom made to California's specifications. Notary seals or stamps cannot be sent to a notary without an original Certificate of Authorization (not a copy) is received by the vender. An embosser not not be used without the rubber stamp.

The manufacturer shall include on the California notary public seal all the required elements as provided for in Government Code Section 8207 as follows: The name of the notary public; The State Seal; The words Notary Public; The filing county shown on the certificate of authorization; The notary public commission expiration date; The notary public commission number; The manufacturer identification number.

The seal may be circular not over two inches in diameter, or may be rectangular not more than one inch in width by two and one-half inches in length, with a serrated or milled edged border.

The quality, size, color, and text available for a Notary Public embosser ranges from notary venders. Hand-held embossers, portable desk embossers, see-through style stamp seal, and gold foil seals are all options off California notary public. Gold foil notary seals are permanent adhesive seals show professionalism to the notarized documents. Foil seals are expected on papers received in foreign countries. A Notary Public should have all the different types of seals to meet their clients needs in order to be successful.
