There are many terms that can be used to describe a Traveling Notary Public. Some of the most common include traveling public notary and mobile Notary Public. No matter what name it is called by, the fact remains that it is still the same. So what does a Notary Public commission mean? It references the traveling Notary Publics standing with the state.
A person attains a notary public commission when they complete a course and pass an exam. The course that needs to be taken is one that is required and it is 6 hours in length. There is no exception for this seminar or course; every person in the United States that wants to be a notary must complete it. This notary 6 hour seminar can be taken at many locations in California, including those that are local to largers areas. When the course is taken, a person will review their study guide and do some practice tests to prepare for the official notary exam. Once this test is passed, a person official becomes a Traveling Notary Public.
Typically this exam test is good for a year and the commission is good for four years. Every year a notary has to attend a 3 hour refresher and updater course and then re-take and pass the test. If the notary fails to do both of these or one of these, they will no longer be able to be a traveling notary in the state of California and their commission will expire. It is also important to ensure that these items are taken care of before the commission expires for the year. California gives the notary 30 days before expiration to complete these items.
Keeping up to date is an important part of a Traveling Notary Public's job. Knowing new legislation and processes will help ensure that everything is being completed correctly and that there will be no problems on the notaries end. Organization and follow up are important in the world of a notary. This is why the date should be placed on notary public commission renewal so that the notary does not forget to take care of their commission standing. Once a commission expires, the notary will no longer be able to provide notary services, and if they do, they will not be valid and they will be breaking the law.
