Each one of us has our own idea of what qualities we look for in a good speaker. You ask ten different people, you'll get ten different answers. It's just one of those kinds of a profession. Speakers should use body language as much as needed to stress clear points adding flair at the same time. Hand jesters, feet and especially facial expressions are needed too. My favorite speaker is one to draw from a story or even bits and parts of two or three stories if needed. Blending and weaving his "special message" given for the audience at hand.

A well crafted speech or talk by a skilled speaker should be remembered by the listeners for many years. I can't tell how many poor speeches I've heard, and then before I even have gotten to the parking lot, I forgot what the speech was all about.

In a sense an excellent speaker to me is like an old time storyteller. I'm talking about the ones you read about back in the fifteen and sixteen hundreds. Just down right almost an actor in a theater on Broadway! Or even go back further in time, before the written word was man, his stories or speeches on the walls of caves with pictures. We know speeches were given then because a man would be drawn on a wall. Many faces would be looking up to a speaker with his arms open as he leans forward his mouth open wide.

One of the most important tools of a speaker is his voice. It can be lowered to draw the audience in, and then raise his voice at just the right time to stress key points. Of course too loud and you?ll frighten the audience. A little humor is good too if the situation warrants humor in the speech.

In closing, a good speaker can be a good leader, if not then he should start learning or he'll not be a successful leader very long. Leader, speaker, communicator, relationship builder. They all seem to go hand in hand with each other, the makings of a great speaker! Make sure you allow enough time for the audience to ask their questions in a timely manor. If one chooses to be professional speaker, the sky is the limit! If you're weak in some of these areas then educate yourself turning your weaknesses into strengths. It'll be an education well spent.
