Knowing when it is time to change your continental tires out for a new set can help to make your ride safer, smoother, and even more fuel efficient. In spite of this fact, many people are unaware of the warning signs that it is time for a new set and fail to make the change until they are on the side of the road with a blow out or flat. Don't let yourself be one of those unfortunate folks!

First of all, a good tire will have high tread. You can check for wear and tear on your tread with a simple process called the penny test. In order to perform this test, just take a penny and place it into the tire's tread grooves along the front. If you can see all of President Lincoln's head on the coin then you are probably due for a replacement set; if you cannot see his head then you likely have some time left to go before replacing the tire.

If you find that it is time for a replacement, especially if it has not been that long since you bought your last set, you should look at where the tread wear has occurred to determine if other work needs to be done on your vehicle. When the center is far more worn than the exterior of the wheel, this means that over inflation is likely the cause. On the contrary, wear around the shoulders of the wheel is indicative of an under inflation issue. If the wearing is very uneven, this generally means that you need an alignment.

Tread is by and large the clearest indicator that it is time for a new set of Continental tires. If you are noticing a bumpy ride or can see clearly cracked areas in the tire's body, then you should have the set looked at or replace them. Remember it is ideal that you replace all four at once, in order to maintain perfect balance.

Changing out your Continental tires at an appropriate time could prevent wrecks and even allow for a smoother, more fuel-efficient ride. The damage caused each year by drivers who have let their wheels become too worn is astronomical and is a leading cause of accidents. Stay safe; check your car's wheel tread for these issues and for proper inflation before any long trip and at least once every month.

If you want to find the custom tires that are right for you today, then you can visit Continental Tires and you may also want to see Pirelli Tires.
