Oviedo may be home to plenty of modern-day conveniences like the Oviedo Marketplace Mall, the YMCA, plenty of restaurants, parks and boast a population of over 30,000 but Oviedo’s roots extend back to 1865, just after the Civil War. When the city finally incorporated in 1925, the population was around 800. While families back then may have spent their days growing citrus and celery and selling them in nearby Sanford and Orlando marketplaces, today’s Oviedo residents take advantage of the city’s many recreational activities and facilities.

The Oviedo aquatic center features the Big Kahuna, an olympic-sized pool providing eight 50 meter lanes or twenty-two 25 yard lanes. The Big Kahuna is home to the Oviedo Barracuda Summer Team, the Training Cudas, the Oviedo Lions Swimming and Water Polo teams, the Blue Dolfins, Winter Springs Bear Swimming and Water Polo teams and many other aquatic programs. There’s also the Splash Zone, a zero depth entry pool with play features and a big slide. The Oviedo sports complex features 4 softball fields, 7 youth baseball fields and 1 T-ball field, a playground, and concessions. The nearby Econ River Wilderness area is a 240 acre wooded site with approximately 3 miles of trails for hiking, photography, horseback riding & bird watching.

Oviedo is home to some of the most diverse residential areas in Seminole County. While Oviedo may be located right next door to the University of Central Florida, you can purchase a home on acreage in an equestrian community with riding trails and still be within 20 minutes of downtown Orlando. While that may be the most extreme example, you can actually find everything from condos to single family homes of every shape and size all the way up to large estates. Oviedo also offers property on pristine lakes complete with stunning sunsets and both the Econlockhatchee River and a tributary, the Little Econlockhatchee River, run through the city as well. The most interesting body of water in Oviedo would have to be Lake Jesup with the largest population of alligators in the United States, well over 10,000! For a real adventure, try taking an airboat ride and checking out the gators, the bald eagles, and other wildlife.

Single family homes in Oviedo start as low as $95,000 and go as high as $2.9M with most of them priced between $250,000 and $500,000. Condominiums and townhouses can be purchased for anywhere from $39,900 to $239,900. At those prices anyone can find a place to call home in Oviedo.
