Have you been trying to quit smoking? Or have you already tried several times? Wouldn’t it be good to be able to give up tobacco forever? If you are about to quit, do you know what to do to fight off that urge to smoke another cigarette? Do you even know the reasons that cause you to light up that next cigarette? If you are still smoking, there are a couple of questions that you will need to ask yourself, “Am I ready to quit smoking?” and “Can I do it successfully?”

There are some frightening statistics associated with smoking, did you know that if you smoke, you could be twelve times more likely to die from lung cancer, ten times more likely to die from cancer of the larynx, six times more likely to die of heart disease and twice as likely to die of a stroke! Did you also know that, if you quit smoking now you will increase your chances of living longer, you will also save thousands of dollars in medical expenses and you will feel healthier.

There are two factors that will determine if you are going to succeed. Firstly, you must want to give up your habit and secondly you must have the confidence in yourself to know that you can do it. It is possible to get motivated to quit, yet most people keep trying and fail for a variety of different reasons. Quitting smoking can be an uncomfortable experience because cigarettes have given you something to do for a long time. Therefore, it is only natural to think about the ups and downs of giving them up. Most people who try to quit, fail to do so and have to try several times before they eventually succeed.

Just think for one moment, wouldn’t it be very important for you to increase your chances of living from two to twelve times longer? Gain many extra years of happy, healthy existence and save thousands of dollars in increased medical costs? This is often an overlooked benefit of quitting, the amount of money saved by not buying cigarettes in the first place. If you smoke one pack of cigarettes a day at $3.70 per pack, you spend around $1300 per year. If your habit has continued for a period of 20 years you will have spent an incredible $26,000! If you smoke two packs for that same period of time, you will spend $52,000! Imagine what you could have spent that money on? So now really is the time to quit smoking, you owe it to yourself and your family.
