When we're young there are all sorts of adventures we can dream of getting up to and we often play out these imaginary scenarios with our friends. As we get older, however, we become more focussed on the practicalities of life. Here are a few ideas for real-life adventures.

Outdoor Swimming

Outdoor swimming is one of the most exciting things you can do in the countryside. While a lot of towns might have several lidos and other outdoor pools, they don't quite generate the same level of risk that swimming in a lake or a slow-moving river might do.

Obviously you need to be a strong swimmer to be able to do this safely, and even then you'll really want to take a lot of precautions, such as making sure you do this with some company and also wearing a wetsuit for greater buoyancy in case you get tired. If you can, try to do it an organised event where you'll be properly looked after and there may rafts in the water in case of extreme situations.

A Hot Air Balloon Flight

Almost all of us at one time or another pretended we could fly, and this is an instinct that rarely leaves us as we get older. Although today we often travel around in aeroplanes, there isn't the same sense of freedom that we dreamt of when we are children.

One way to do achieve this sense of freedom is in a hot air balloon. While up in the sky in one of these we can feel the wind in our hair and brushing against our faces which all helps to add to the excitement. Of course, the irony is that hot air balloon trips are probably the safest way to fly, which is a great further benefit to have.

Go On Safari

Obviously this isn't a cheap way to capture that sense of adventure, however seeing lions, elephants and rhinos is incredibly exciting, particularly in the flesh and when they are not in captivity. Of course, it's always pretty safe as you'll be in a vehicle or if you're on foot your guide will be properly armed, but it is a great way to see these majestic beasts.

As you can see there are plenty of ways we can indulge our inner child in our grown up lives, and doing so can often help us relax. What did you like doing when you were a child?

British School Of Ballooning provides Hot Air Balloon Flights throughout the south of England. Hot Air Ballooning is the perfect way to enjoy the scenery in the Home Counties. Find out more about balloon flights London here http://www.hotair.co.uk/
