Our skies are more crowded than ever before, and when we look up into them we can see all manner of traffic, both from nature and from man. Here are a few things you might see if you look hard enough.

Helicopters

Helicopters are typically vehicles that are either used by private businesses for safety reasons or the health services to pick up injured individuals who are in distress. Because of the fact that they are highly manoeuvrable helicopters are very useful for this type of work. They also require comparatively little space to land which means that the police will from time to time use them to pursue a criminal on the run.

Of course, it's not just organisations that use helicopters, with some extremely rich private individuals owning, and even capable of flying them. Helicopters are therefore popular with celebrities as they can travel with an even higher degree of flexibility.

Birds

Birds were the original owners of the skies before humans came along, and there are still plenty of them up there. It's very unusual to look at a patch of sky for ten minutes and not see some birds fly though it and bird watching is a very popular activity with some sections of society, as they sit in a hut alone for hours on end in the hope of seeing a particular species of bird.

Hot Air Balloons

After birds, hot air balloons were one of the earliest ways that man managed to get himself into the sky. They're still incredibly popular today with people seeking a day out - perhaps romantically - and are a great way to see the countryside below at a more sedate pace.

Aeroplanes

The story of flight didn't start with aeroplanes but they are the most common way for people to travel these when embarking on long distance journeys. These huge metal tubes with wings attached are incredibly expensive to build and consequently aren't cheap to travel in, however there are some budget airlines that make this type of trip less painful on the pocket. Of course, the other way that aeroplanes hurt us is that they have a huge negative impact on the planet, and these factors must be weighed up as we consider whether we want to travel in this way.

As you probably already know, our skies are becoming more and more crowded, but that only makes them more interesting. What excites you when you look up?

British School Of Ballooning provides Hot Air Balloon Flights throughout the south of England. Hot Air Ballooning is the perfect way to enjoy the scenery in the Home Counties. Find out more about hot air balloon rides here http://www.hotair.co.uk/
