Essex University is one of the top universities in the UK, but what is a student to do while not in the library there? There are plenty of pubs, you could go in a hot air balloon or even blow that grant at the shops.

Night Clubs

Essex is well renowned for its night clubs and revelry, with a reputation that stems far beyond that of its students. Of course, students love to enjoy a night out, going dancing and experiencing all sorts of new things while they're doing so. Essex won't disappoint them.

The Circus Tavern is famed for its chic patrons, who party until the small hours and dance to some of the coolest music around. Lava & Ignite, on the other hand, offers customers two different night clubs in one, meaning that if you fancy changing the vibe of your night then you only need to walk a few feet to swap. Sam's Club, however, offers live music on Saturdays, meaning that there really is something for every type of clubber in Essex.

Pubs

Before going out to their night clubs, many students like going to pubs to have a few beers and enjoy more of a chat. Of course, many prefer sinking pints in this environment completely, and so don't make the night club the target of their evening. There's plenty to keep this type of student happy as well.

The Student Union Bar is typical of all student union bars in that the drink is cheap and it's full of students. It's a great place to mingle with people you know, consequently, and offers plenty of security as well as jobs i the bar for those looking for a few extra pennies. If you want to go off-campus then The Rosebud Pub Restaurant and Brewery is very popular with the locals and is generally considered to be one of the best kept secrets in Essex.

Shopping

Students don't like to see positive numbers in their bank accounts at the best of times, and if you're not sure how to get into the red then Essex offers plenty of chances to do so at the shops. The Only Way is Essex has gone some way to disprove the stereotype of the Essex local, however it has also shown that there is a very strong sub-culture that can be embraced and by dressing up in the local fashions you can certainly do that.

Hot Air Ballooning

Nothing is quite as random for students as getting a feel for your new home than to see it from the sky. Club together with a few of your new friends in Freshers' Week and see the campus from the air.

Clearly there's plenty to do for the Essex student - just make sure you don't get too distracted to get your 2:1!

The British School of Ballooning is a family owned business operating many balloons throughout Southern England. For more on balloon rides Essex visit http://www.hotair.co.uk/location/essex
