Whatever you want to do when you come to the Big Smoke, there's always plenty on and plenty of ways to spend your money and pass your time. You could go to the Houses of Parliament or you could take a balloon ride over the city - here are some great ways to make the most of a day in London.

1. Shopping

Unsurprisingly, the UK's capital has a vast array of shops selling almost anything you can imagine. Whether you want to take a trip down Oxford Street and check out some famous high street stores or fancy browsing the most expensive boutiques in Bond Street there's something for everyone.

London's shops are famous for their glamour, and even taking a walk along the streets will give you a very clear idea of what's in fashion and what's not as the capital's fashionistas trawl the streets checking out the latest ideas while looking for bargains. A real experience even if you don't want to put your hand in your pocket!

2. Museums

London has many museums of all different types and subject matters with many of them also being free. You can spend hours in the Natural History and Science Museum, examining their exhibits and enjoying their shows. Similarly, there are a number of much smaller but much more niche museums that provide a great education and are often free, making them very price friendly to take all the family along to.

3. Galleries

Again, the numerous art galleries in London are a terrific place to spend time and are also free. The Tate Modern, set on the south side of the river, is perhaps the most famous of these, and while there are plenty of challenging and possibly confusing pieces, they like to use the vast space in basement to provide an interactive exhibit. Recent pieces have included a huge slide, which is very much enjoyed by children, of course.

4. Parks

Perhaps more so than any other major capital city, London is proliferated with parks. It means that when the weather is agreeable you can go for a picnic, relax or go for a stroll in large green inner city areas. The major parks in London include, Hyde Park, Regents Park and Clapham Common.

5. Hot Air Balloon Flight

Of course, if you want to take in all the parks, the galleries, the museums and the shops in just one afternoon then you could do a lot worse than take a balloon trip over the nation's capital. Surprisingly inexpensive, a peaceful and picturesque day awaits.

So you see, a day out in London needn't be expensive, but it can be a lot of fun. There's plenty to do and to enjoy and the variety of attractions available should suit all tastes.

British School Of Ballooning provides Hot Air Balloon Flights throughout the south of England. Hot Air Ballooning is the perfect way to enjoy the scenery in the Home Counties. Find out more about balloon flights london here http://www.hotair.co.uk/
