As some of the wealthiest people in our society, celebrities enjoy hobbies and pastimes that sometimes seem outlandish but are actually quite affordable on closer inspection. Here are a few things that celebrities get up to when they're not doing whatever they're famous for.

Flying Helicopters

Admittedly buying a helicopter is an expense that most of us couldn't even dream about, however learning to fly one is something that you need to set aside a lot less money to do. For some reason a lot of sports people - especially footballers - have taken up flying helicopters with Michael Owen and Les Ferdinand both famous for arriving at training in this particular manner.

Hot Air Balloons

If you're not interested in taking to the air under a propeller then flying in a hot air balloon is the celebrity pastime for you. Richard Branson was famous for his balloon activities when he was younger, with many attempts to fly specific routes under his belt.

Flying in hot air balloons is surprisingly inexpensive and is something that will last you for most of your life as you don't need to be in amazing physical condition to be able to enjoy it. Therefore it's something that's very much worth checking out if you have an appetite for it.

Owning Race Horses

Admittedly owning a race horse outright is an incredibly expensive hobby, with the cost of the horse, race fees, jockey fees, training fees and kit all adding up to huge amounts of money. So while Sir Alex Ferguson or Michael Owen may indulge in having their own horse or horses, you may have to share the ownership of one with a few others as part of a syndicate: not a bad way to join in the excitement of racing!

Holidaying

Although we all go on holiday from time to time there's a huge difference in terms of how lavish a holiday some celebrities enjoy compared to the average member of the public. Of course, there are almost always cheaper versions of their holidays available, whether it be going to a less luxurious hotel or going to a country that's similar but not as famous. What is important when you holiday is that you go somewhere you can enjoy and where there's the option to change scene from your everyday life.

As you can see living the life of a celebrity and pursuing their hobbies isn't as expensive as you might think - it's all down to coming up with imaginative
