Waking up on a Saturday or Sunday morning, knowing that you have no work to go to and the day is all yours, meaning that you could while away the hours knitting or going on a balloon trip is a wonderful way to spend the day. Here are a few things you could get up to.

1. Read A Book

Reading is an incredibly rewarding pastime at it allows you to immerse yourself in a different universe or situation, taking on the inner thoughts of the narrator and providing you with time to pause and reflect.

Not only is it entertaining however, but there's definitely a sense of self-worth associated with reading a quality book that challenges our vocabulary as we feel it can also be an act of self-improvement. We can also be introduced to new ideas which can make the time spent both enjoyable and productive.

One can also read wherever one is, whether it is in a park, on a train or curled up in front of a fire in the winter. Just so long as there isn't too much noise and nothing to distract the reader, it's an activity that can be done just about anywhere.

2. Go To The Pub

There is nothing better than a good chinwag with friends and the pub is often the perfect setting to do this. If you find somewhere you like there is often plenty of entertainment, whether you enjoy watching sport, playing quiz machines or even taking out a board game and indulging in a game of snakes and ladders.

Almost everyone is a little more convivial after a drink, and while nobody would recommend drinking to excess, life can often seem more fun with a larger array of opportunities and the company is almost always more engaging. Just make sure you stop before you have get yourself a hangover for the following day - particularly if it's a Sunday and you have work to go to on the Monday!

3. Go To The Pictures

Watching a film is something almost everyone enjoys, indeed there is a line in cult British situation comedy which reads "An interest in film? What a surprise, next she'll tell me she needs to turn oxygen into carbon dioxide".

Of course, all cynicism aside, watching a film on the big screen is so popular partly because there are so many genres that there is usually something on for everyone.

4. A Hot Air Balloon Trip

Is there a funner way to spend a day during your weekend? Not as expensive as you might think, going in a balloon is always a memorable trip and is a huge amount of fun. Of course, you don't need to go alone, enjoy the skies with a friend.

So you see, there's no shortage of fun things to do when you get up in the morning with nothing planned.
