Kent is one of the most beautiful areas of the country, so how would one spend time there - in a cathedral, a swanky restaurant or a hot air balloon? Explore the options with us below.

1. Lullingstone Castle and World Garden

Interested in plants? This historic setting is home to the first ever World Garden of Plants, so there should be plenty there to keep you interested. Interested in history? The mansion is over six hundred years old and was regularly visited by both Queen Anne and Henry VIII.

2. Rochester Cathedral

Another treat for history fans, the building was first consecrated in 640 and the building that stands today is nearly a thousand years old. As a result the architecture is varied, with Norman and Gothic influences present within the walls that are famed for their medieval paintings.

3. Downderry Nursery

Another special treat for those who take a keen interest in horticulture, Downderry Nursery boast a dazzling mixture of colours and aromas. It's the home to The National Plant Collections of lavender and Rosemary.

4. Squerryes Court

Yet another historical find, Squerryes Court dates back to 1681 when it was originally built and is famous for its collections of paintings, furniture and porcelain. You can also visit it for its tearoom, and, of course, the gardens.

5. Willesborough Windmill

Although Willesborough Windmill was originally built in 1869 and fell into disuse it has since been repaired and is today a working smock mill. It's open to tourists, who can witness the barn and cottage and learn in the industrial heritage museum.

6. Deal Castle

A Tudor artillery castle, Deal Castle is a great place to explore, with its winding corridors and shadowy passages, all the family can roam the whole place, playing and learning.

7. Scotney Castle

Another fantastic place to take all the family, Scotney Castle sits in middle of stunning gardens and woodlands meaning that it is the ideal venue for walks and games. The castle itself was built in the thirteen hundreds, and although it is now a ruin, there is still plenty of evidence that of what it was formerly like with the moat still circling it.

8. Go For A Balloon Trip

Kent has plenty of beautiful countryside and as mentioned above lots of beautiful buildings to see. Balloon trips are a peaceful and enjoyable way to take in all Kent has to offer.

So as you can see there are plenty of places to take yourself as well as your kids when you visit Kent. The question isn't really what you will visit, but in what order you want to see things, as everything listed above really can't be missed.

British School Of Ballooning provides Hot Air Balloon Flights throughout the south of England. Hot Air Ballooning is the perfect way to enjoy the scenery in the Home Counties. Find out more about Balloon Flights Kent here http://www.hotair.co.uk/location/kent
