For small businesses and for new businesses acquiring new equipment can pose a problem. There are many options here, but it may be that cash flow and credit lines are restricted so an outright purchase may not be possible. So, what else can you do? You could lease the equipment you need instead. This preserves your capital and means that your lines of credit are saved for other things. The way leasing works is that the leasing company purchases the equipment then leases said equipment to your company for a set period of time and (normally) a fixed monthly fee. There will be a legal agreement document, a copy of which is held by both companies.

Many businesses that require new or replacement equipment without making a large dent in their budgets use a leasing company to supply them with what they need. Your business can lease almost anything whether you are involved in the construction industry, sales or other commerce, there is a leasing firm that can supply you with the vital equipment necessary to keep your business running smoothly and may give your company an edge over competitors. Whether it is a company car you need or a fully kitted out office, there is a lease for you. Your company can make a substantial saving when it comes to equipment which becomes obsolete in a short space of time. This is particularly the case with IT equipment and we all know how quickly our computers become outdated as technology advances. Your company will not have to dispose of the old equipment either, so that will save time and money. With a set lease, you know that you will be able to get an upgrade when you renew or purchase a new lease. It is important to investigate the approximate lifespan of the equipment so that you can be sure that leasing is the correct thing for your business. It may be that the piece of equipment you need is very costly, has a long lifespan but without which your business would not be able to operate. Acquiring such equipment would mean either taking out a bank loan or using a large portion of your company's capital to fund the acquisition. Leasing gives you another option which may be more cost effective in the long term.

Another benefit of leasing is that if the equipment has any problems or breaks down, you will be able to have it repaired or replaced very quickly and this will save valuable time and money. If you purchase equipment, your company will be responsible for any repairs or replacement and this can be time consuming, inconvenient and cost your business a lot of money whilst you are unable to operate.

So, before you rush off and buy equipment, do take some time to consider the benefits of leasing. There are different types of leasing company, some are very specialist and there are others who offer a range of services, so do shop around, find out what is on offer, how much it will cost and what the actual benefits to your business will be.
