How do you go about finding a reliable firm to give you the best IT support for your computers? It can be a bit of a nightmare as there are many companies offering such services, but a lot of them are not as reliable or as knowledgeable as you would want. The best way is word of mouth. Get recommendations from business associates, colleagues or from other trusted sources. Take some time to read reviews about suggested companies. Companies with several complaints, whether resolved or not, require careful consideration or possible discard. You do not want to employ a company that does not give good service or offers services which are not as good as they seem, so choose wisely.

Interview prospective companies thoroughly, have a list of questions ready to ask. You will need to know how quickly they will come out, so find out what the maximum downtime is likely to be and are they prepared to come out at any time during the day (or if you are a 24 hour organisation, will they cover nights too). Do they offer unlimited remote support? Their answers will give you an indication of the service on offer and obviously, the longer you are offline the less business you can conduct.

Most IT support companies offer much the same in the way of services but do take time to consider the depth of those services. Reduced levels of service might be the cheaper option, but take into account that this service might not be enough for you, what will you do if you can't get back up and running?

Find out exactly what services you are being offered and what this entails. Beware of long contracts because if you are unhappy with the service or your requirements change, you could be stuck with them for a long time or it could cost you dear to be released. Find out what guarantees the company offer. A company that guarantees and takes pride in its results is always worth investigating. Always check certifications and make sure that you get a list of certificates so that you can see that they have the training and knowledge to take care of your needs.

You will need to know what support you need, so that you can make an informed choice. You can then discuss with the IT experts what services you want and are likely to need as technology advances. When you get towards making the final choice, invite them to a meeting so that you can assess personalities and whether you think they will match you and your staff. There is no point in employing a company where there is a clash of personalities as it will just be very unproductive. This meeting will also allow you to hear an explanation of established procedures and processes.

Any good company worth its salt will have a well documented plan describing how they go about their repair, maintenance, servicing and support services. They should be able to offer a stock of services or a tailor made service, depending upon your company's requirements.

The decisions you make in choosing IT support can have a huge effect on your company, so do take time to choose carefully and you will reap the rewards.
