Leafing through any of those home magazines will let you see any amount of luxurious and sumptuous homes, whether it is a large country mansion or a smart exclusive city centre apartment. Whatever type of home you want, one thing you must be absolutely clear about is the location of the property. It is that eternal estate agents' battle cry Location, Location, Location! Get the location right and everything else falls into place.

A luxury apartment in an exclusive part of town could be just what you are looking for. There could be several things that you absolutely must have for this home. For instance, a concierge, maid service, spacious rooms, spectacular views of the city and a secure car park may be some of the essentials for you. You will probably also be close to some top restaurants, clubs and have easy access to the theatre. Obviously, your luxury apartment will be in a building which is extremely well maintained and the common areas should be elegantly decorated and kept very clean. Inside your apartment, your rooms should appear spacious and airy with tasteful décor, endowed with very good quality furniture and soft furnishings. Lighting should be subtle but give enough illumination so that you can see what you are doing. The ambience should be one of elegant and very comfortable living.

Bedrooms should be an oasis of tranquillity decorated in soft and relaxing colours. There should be enough space to allow for your bed and enough furniture to store your clothes, or you may have a walk in wardrobe which should have plenty of space. Depending upon the size of the apartment, an en-suite bathroom is always a useful addition. Your bathrooms should be very bright, preferably enhanced with natural daylight and have a proper ventilation system to prevent dampness. The bathroom could be completely tiled with marble and have a contemporary bathroom suite or you may prefer to have an old fashioned Victorian style suite. Equipped with whatever accessories you want and piles of fluffy soft towels.

The kitchen should be a delight to use with everything in its place. Equipped with a top of the range cooker, fridge freezer and dishwasher, your kitchen should look as if it has come out of a luxury brochure. Even a compact kitchen can be luxurious with hidden appliances and as long as you have lots of storage cupboards, it will look neat and clutter free. Good ventilation is a must, after all you don't want cooking smells to permeate the rest of the apartment. A contemporary look would probably best suit a modern luxury apartment.

Your luxury home must be properly constructed using only high quality materials and it goes without saying, that every part must be finished properly to the highest possible standards. Whether you have carpets or wooden flooring and rugs, your floor should be smooth and creak or squeak free. Every part of the building should look luxurious but never vulgar, remember less is more.
