Building your website is only the beginning of your internet marketing journey. It is no good just having a website that nobody knows about, you need to attract visitors, who will hopefully, buy your products or services. So, how do you go about getting your website found? If you do not have the knowledge to do the marketing yourself, you need to engage a good specialist SEO company to do it for you. Finding the right company need not be a difficult and time consuming activity however. As a starting point, it is always a good idea to ask business associates for recommendations or companies to avoid, or perhaps your website designer can offer ideas? If you can, find out what is good about the services delivered by each company, what was good and what was not so good. That way you will be well armed with information and can try to get the best services for your company.

When you have a few to choose from, take a look at their websites and gain further information from there, such as how long they have been in business, do they have a specialist niche, is there a testimonial or recommendations page and so on. It is also a good idea to check their own rankings as this will give you an idea of how they are doing themselves (although it is best to see how well they have done for their customers).

Compare services offered by several companies and see what might suit you best. Now that you have a bit more information, you can make contact and see what they have to offer you. A good internet marketing company will spend time finding out what you hope to gain from advertising and will discuss with you a number of options to get those results. Depending upon what you need, meetings will be tailored to those requirements.

A good SEO company too, will always be thorough, there are no shortcuts and they will be fluent in all aspects of internet marketing. Make sure they only use 'white hat' methods as they will only do things within the rules. Any company using 'black hat' is to be avoided as they break rules and you could end up having your site blacklisted, which will lead to it being removed from the listings, something that you want to avoid at all costs!

Always know what you are paying for and that the company does not exceed the agreed budget. Beware of companies asking you to sign up to a long contract as you may end up paying good money for very little in the way of service. Also beware of companies promising instant results, a good SEO company will know that this is not possible and that it takes time to cultivate good rankings. There are many companies who promise the earth but then fail to deliver, so take care here.

Do your research carefully and you should be able to engage a very good SEO company who will work very hard for you and make your marketing budget work hard too. A good company will contact you as often (or as little) as you want with updates and reports and will always be available to help with questions you may have. Remember, SEO is a 'long haul' process and anyone offering 'instant success' is best avoided.

With SEO, patience is indeed a virtue!
