Living through your first DUI can be a very frightening experience. However, a second DUI can be even more so. With a second DUI offense, you may find yourself facing increased court fines, longer license suspension, and possibly even jail time. Having an experienced dui lawyer on your side is even more important when facing a second DUI charge than it was with your first DUI.

What might a second DUI offense man to you?

* If you are convicted of a second DUI, Pennsylvania law could suspend your license of up to 18 months. Following that, a breathalyzer type of device may be installed in your vehicle for up to one year that will check your breath for alcohol before it will allow you to start the vehicle.

* If you are convicted of a second DUI, Pennsylvania law sets some steep fines. Depending upon your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC), fines can range anywhere from $300 to $10,000. With such high fines, your wallet will be directly impacted by a second DUI conviction.

* A second DUI conviction will also likely impact your auto insurance rates, perhaps even your ability to retain your current insurance. Most insurance carriers will drop anyone convicted of a second DUI. Considering that a DUI conviction stays on your driving record forever, it may also be unlikely that you will be able to find a new carrier at a reasonable rate, unless you pursue high-risk insurance.

* A second DUI conviction in Pennsylvania means that you could face jail time - anywhere from five days to 90 days, or more. Plus, following completion of your sentence, you may also face supervision and/or probation for up to five additional years. Jail time is not to be taken lightly and will dramatically impact your life now and in years to come.

A second DUI conviction may also affect your future driving ability. If you rely on driving to make a living, such as with a CDL (Commercial Driver's License), you may find your current job to be in jeopardy following a second DUI conviction. You may also find it difficult to find future driving employment with a second DUI on your permanent driving record.

While no DUI conviction is good, with a quality, experienced DUI lawyer by your side, you can know that you will receive the very best defense possible. The best DUI lawyer for your case is one that you feel most comfortable with and has a high success rate at defending DUI charges like yours.
