Watkins Incorporated, founded by Joseph Ray Watkins in 1868, started with the Watkins original liniment made of camphor (from evergreen trees) and capsicum (red peppers) and prepared in his kitchen 140 years ago. The liniment may have gone but the company and the name is still going on strong.

Years later, he expanded his product line with medicinal salves, vegetable oil soaps, rose perfumes, and many natural spices and extracts. He was so confident with his products he introduced the now-famous Watkins "trial mark" bottle and the first-ever money back guarantee in selling.

By the 1920s, the demand for Watkins natural concoctions were so great he went to urban centers. In 1913, he added Canada to his distribution center, and by the 30s, he went international and had distribution in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England. Today, his operations are still thriving and products are sold in the US, Canada, the U.K. and the Philippines.

Since the start, the Watkins family owned and operated the company all the way for its first 110 years. Irving Jacobs purchased Watkins in 1978 and it is now the Jacobs family who are continuing the Watkins tradition of manufacturing the highest quality products and providing outstanding service along the way.

The products

The Watkins product list clearly bears the signature of the man - natural and organic.

The Natural Gourmet group has the Organic Herbs & Spices, the All-Natural Pure Extracts, Seasoning Blends & Salts, Soup and Gravy Bases, Dips & Spreads, Beverages, Baking and Cooking Staples, Sauces & Grape seed Oils, Bread Mixes and Crusts and others.

The home remedies include the Menthol Cough & Cold, First Aid, supplements, and weight management systems. The Personal Care list is simply J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary and its traditional version. The Natural Plant-based Home Care are still around with a big list of choices of environmentally-friendly concoctions.
