In the world today experience is a serious commodity. This means that if you have overcome something, or lived through an experience, or achieved something of note, you can often turn this to your advantage, and create a profitable work from home opportunity around it. So, how does this work?

Teaching others is probably one of the great boom work from home opportunities of recent years. In the mid 20th century it was firmly qualifications that counted. This has completely turned around now, and in many cases, your experiences are more valuable. Even outside the work from home environment, in the normal jobs market, experience has taken over from qualifications as being most desirable.

The way to turn this to your advantage is to ask yourself, "What have I experienced in my life that others might like to hear about?" This literally can be almost anything. Most people will want to know how to avoid mistakes, how to shortcut a process, or how to do something that you have achieved.

Let's look at some of the more common experiences and how these can be turned into profitable work from home businesses.

Bringing up a family - Parenting is a big mystery for most people when they start out. Many who have raised large families successfully will have valuable experiences to teach others.

The key here is that you have been successful in raising your kids. If your offspring all ended up in prison then it would be unlikely that anyone would want to take your advice about parenting. Even here 'though you would have valuable experience to pass to other parents who have kids in the prison system!

Surviving serious illness - If you have faced serious illness, and have come through the other end, then you will have valuable experience you can turn into a work from home opportunity. This could be in the form of a newsletter, course or even a series of talks, lectures or seminars. These can be recorded and distributed on audio CD. Even those who look after seriously ill relatives or friends will have valuable experience to pass onto others.

I recently read about someone who survived cancer, and who now lectures part time to medical students on his experiences while he was being treated. This is how he makes his living now, as well as being paid as an inspirational speaker, and motivation coach.

Surviving going bust - Those who have been successful, and then have lost it all and come thorough it, have valuable experience to teach others about the process. Becoming bankrupt is something that many will be facing in current times. Advice on how to cope and what to do in these circumstances will be better received from someone who has been through it, rather than some professional advisor working for a bank!

Starting your own home based business - If you do this successfully then there will be a big audience waiting to hear your experience and take your advice. You can tell others what you did and when, where to go for advice, and what mistakes to avoid.

Becoming famous! - Everyone likes a celebrity, and if that's you - even in a small way - then you should pass on your experiences to others. If you have become a published author, won an event of note, held a record, achieved a notable feat, or been a performer or celebrity of any kind, people will want to hear from you how they can do it too.

Passing on this kind of experience makes a great work from home opportunity. Everyone, secretly or even openly, wants to have their five minutes of fame. To your audience your experience is invaluable as it prevents them from having to make the same mistakes you did. If you can give them a "shortcut" to stardom then you have a valuable commodity to sell.

No matter what your life's been like, you have probably experienced something that others might like to learn about. This is your chance to turn your life story into a serious and unique work from home opportunity.

By basing your work from home business on your own experience you can actually guarantee a unique product or service, because no one but you has lived your life!
