You do have a much better chance of selling your stuff if there is a big demand for it. By conducting an eBay search through eBay Pulse you can get a good idea of what items are currently listed on eBay and what the top sellers are.
This will give you a clear idea of what your prices should be for your items and or if the considered item has much of a marketable interest. If the market is currently saturated you may want to hold back for awhile especially if you're wanting to get top dollar.
If this becomes an actual business for you and more than just getting rid of a few items you'll definitely need to consider what products types you'll want to market. It's best to stay within a specific niche in which you have some expertise.
At this point you'll need to think about storage space for the items and the time and costs it will take for shipping. You should also consider the seasonality of products. If you specialize in holiday specific times for example you'll need to be careful not to get stuck with a large inventory off season.
