Paul Harvey was a niche content marketer BEFORE most of us were born.

Paul Harvey, an American Icon for over 50 years, known best for "the rest of the story" and his classic ending to each broadcast: Good Day!

Nine years ago in the year 2000, when he was 82 years old he signed a 10 year, 100 million dollar contract with ABC and completed all but the last year of it when he passed away at age 89 in early 2009.

Yes, a 10 year 100 million dollar contract! This sounds like a guy we ought to consider following. Well, we'll all follow him to his ultimate destination but what I mean is his personal technique as content niche marketer extraordinaire.

You see Paul Harvey was a premier marketer long before the internet. He found a niche, provided great content and consistently met the wants of his niche market day after day after day.

Sound Familiar?

Isn't this the strategy we read and hear about every day that we now have named web 2.0? Paul Harvey just did it naturally. He didn't need a name for it - and we should follow his lead if we want to compete in the current marketplace.

Who else could make an advertisement for popcorn and make it sound like breaking news right off the press! And when you realized it was an advertisement you weren't angry but rather... a smile slowly drew itself around your lips ...and apparently you remembered the popcorn because advertisers were not going to pay big bucks for his ads if they weren't getting a nice return.

Paul Harvey only had a high school education when he was hired for his first gig for $29.50 per week reading the lead into the broadcast for the Saturday Matinee at the Metropolitan Opera.

He believed in hard work!

He hated big government!

But he was never really ultra political!

His last broadcast was made just a few days prior to his death while lying quietly in the Mayo Clinic.

This legends' 70 year career is phenomenal and he taught all of us gurus long ago what it took many of us a lifetime to learn - Find your niche, provide excellent content, be consistent, honest and hard working and you can market yourself to the great heights you deserve.
