Acid reflux happens if stomach acid comes back into the gullet, sometimes referred to as the esophagus. Acid reflux is a common enough problem in the developed world; in fact around 20% of people suffer from this condition every week.

The causes of acid reflux are many and various and the usual suspects are those connected with much of Western civilization. An over-dependence on alcohol to counteract high levels of stress is a contributory factor likewise excessive king-size mugs of coffee.

Additionally you should be aware of the foods that intensify acid reflux especially those with a high fat content or rich in spices. Moreover, cutting down on the portions and having five or six small meals rather than three large meals can only help. You don't necessarily have to go on a special acid reflux diet to reduce the various health risks.

In truth, a sensible eating plan featuring modest helpings of what you fancy, supplemented by plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will help you on your way to a healthy lifestyle.

Add in a modicum of exercise, around 30 minutes brisk walking five days a week, and you will soon feel as well as you have ever felt. And, what is more, you will reduce acid reflux along with the risk of many other ailments.
