For food and wine lovers the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur offers a truly rich experience, with its distinctive food which varies to some extent from other French cuisine. There is no lack of caravan touring ideas for food and wine lovers in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. This area is influenced by the Mediterranean, is famous for its Provencal herbs (herbes de Provence) and the cooking does not use much dairy produce, but instead goats' cheeses plus oodles of olive oil, garlic and olives.

The Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur has some of the very best food markets on offer, and if you are touring around in a caravan, motor home or car, you can go to a different food market each day in a different village. From a foodie or wine lover's perspective these markets are heaven with selections of lovely fresh, local produce and wines.

In Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur one can enjoy the food markets in the mornings, make a typical local recipe for lunch or dinner and dine out in one of the numerous restaurants.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is famous for its various gastronomic delights, which are well known worldwide and much of its gastronomy is inspired by Italian and Spanish culture, as well as French culture. Two of the region's most famous dishes are the Niçois Salad and Ratatouille.

The Niçois Salad is a salad with a variety of ingredients including hard boiled eggs, anchovies and olives, and in some restaurants and homes tuna is included. Another dish that hails from this region and is known in many countries is ratatouille; which is a stewed vegetable dish made from courgettes, tomatoes, onion, garlic and peppers. In 2007 the name of this dish also became the name of a very charming, computer animated film.

Whatever you fancy eating and drinking and doing for enjoyment while touring in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, you will be sure to be affected by the landscape that you drive through, which is famous for its vividly coloured lavender fields and is beautifully enticing.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Wine Routes And Vineyards
There are six wine routes which have been defined but as you set off and get a feel for the roads you may find that you are quite happy to make up your own wine tasting route. Maybe you would prefer to create a vineyard route which is made up according to your own tastes ... reds, rosé (Syrah, Grenache) and white (pale, Semillon); a route of your own will unfold over time during your visit.

At the heart of Provence, from around Brignoles, you can follow one of the six roads which lead to vineyards in caves and discover the variety of wines from Provence. Or you can also follow along the path of the banks of the Lissole, which is full of family estates where wine is produced using traditional methods.

Another possible vineyard route is along the Côtes de Provence. As you travel through the villages of d´Entrecasteaux and Carcès, you will encounter rich wine production. Just at Cotignac you can treat yourself to a wine tasting, in the Nestuby area before discovering the shrine of Our Lady of Graces which was built in the sixteenth century.

The vineyard route in Bormes Les Mimosas starts in the heart of the Massif des Maures, goes down into the Batailler plain and arrives at the sandy soils of Cabasson and Brégancon. There are 12 A.O.C Côtes de Provence vineyards which are open for wine tasting.
