With the advancement of technology, there has been an increase in the number of medical treatments which are used for the cure and prevention of diseases. However, every medical problem has its own solution. There are a number of health problems facing people, and one such problem is Ascariasis.
It is a disease that inflicts human beings, and according to a study it has been discovered that around one fourth of the population of the world suffers from this disease. It is a type of intestinal infection which is caused by a worm and is highly prevalent these days due to the intake of unhealthy and contaminated or adulterated food and drink. It is important to mention here that the ratio of the disease is more prevalent in adults compared with children.
Causes
-This disease is caused by a parasitic roundworm named Ascaris.
It is mostly found in areas which are not properly maintained and of poor hygienic condition. The disease occurs because of infection caused by the intake of food or drink that is not of the expected quality for human consumption and is unhealthy. The food and drinks contain the worm's eggs which lead to this disease.
These worm eggs then hatch and become roundworms which are not mature. The process takes place in the small intestine. When these roundworms grow, they are then moved to the lungs and again reach the small intestine through the stomach. In the small intestine they again become mature roundworms where they can lay eggs to start the process all over again.
But the next question is just how we can find out that the disease is present. There are various common symptoms that one can look for to identify the disease.
Symptoms
-The most common symptoms of Ascariasis are:
Fever, diarrhea, inflammation, coughing, worms in the stool, nose and mouth, rashes of the skin, stomach pains, coughing up blood, vomiting. Basically, the patient tends to look generally malnourished.
These are some of the symptoms that one can look for to identify the problem and find the best cure.
Cure
- To cure this disease, there are several tests which must be done. These tests include an x-ray of the abdominal part of the body, and complete blood and Eosinophil counts.
After taking all the previously mentioned tests, the worms must be killed completely. In complicated situations, endoscopy or surgery is the best option.
It is not always that people who are suffering from this disease require treatment. At times, the person becomes healthy without even going into the process of treatment, although, they will carry the worms in their body. However, it is suggested that complete treatment must be done for this disease as problems may arise if the worms grow bigger and move to different parts of the body and result in further damage.
As already mentioned, this disease is prevalent in places which are not properly and hygienically maintained. It is very common in areas where there's a lack of proper sanitation and where the human bio-waste is actively used as fertilizer. Thus, it is better to take precautions and prevention to safeguard oneself.
