Getting traffic to your websites or affiliate links is something that every Internet marketer has trouble with. And getting targeted traffic to these sites is even harder and takes a lot more work. There really is a difference between traffic and targeted traffic, and in this article we are going to explain the difference. We will also tell you how social media marketing can provide you with the targeted traffic you need.

First off, traffic is basically any time someone visits your website or affiliate link. You can get loads of traffic to your site by using traffic exchanges, but you may never make a sale. The reason is this is not targeted traffic. Targeted traffic, is traffic that came to your website because they are interested in what you have to offer. For example, if someone is reading a weight loss blog and they see an ad for your website that says something like, "Lose 20 Lbs In 20 Days" and they click on that ad, that is targeted traffic.

Here we are going to be talking about using social media sites for getting this targeted traffic. Did you know that YouTube gets over 1 Billion views each and every day? And did you also know that most of that traffic comes from the search engines? Now think about this for one minute. Someone goes to Google and does a search for, "How To Build A Bird House". Now lets say there is a YouTube video on that first page that is titled, "Learn To Build A Bird House". Many people will click that link because they would rather watch a video about it than read instructions.

Now here is where the targeted traffic portion comes in. The video is a short little video showing someone building a bird house, and at the end of the video they say, "See The Link Below To Build Your Own Birdhouse". And in the description of the video is a link which sends that person to a website that sells a book showing people how to build different types of birdhouse's. You know that is targeted traffic because originally they did a search to learn how to build a birdhouse. The chances of these people buying the guide is much higher than people who saw this site in a traffic exchange.

Of course there are other social media sites you can use other than YouTube. You can do the same type of thing on FaceBook or Myspace in order to get the targeted traffic you need. Using social media sites to drive targeted traffic to your offers can really take your online business and put it on steroids. Another thing you should remember when advertising like this on social media sites is to not make your pages to look like spam.
