new article at WhenWorkWorks.org (http://whenworkworks.org/research/downloads/www_us_workflex.pdf) actually suggests that proper use of flexible work plans can help employers achieve the following:

Improved employee work satisfaction

Lower insurance expenses because employees are healthier Lower turnover No employer will find anything wrong with the aforementioned.

They point out that workforce flexibility offers members of an organization the resources that they need in order to become totally engaged and effective at their place of work and at home.

Research has shown that two thirds to three quarters of employees feel like they do not spend enough quality time with their spouses, kids, themselves and their houses. This makes a lot of employees put a lid over their work ambitions in order to make room for their home life.

Obviously, this is not good news to any employer. A worker who is intentionally performing below his or her maximum abilities is simply a drain on the organization's resources. As a business owner, you will not be doing any good for your members of staff and you will not be doing any good for yourself or your business if you fail to deal with the situation.

So, flexibility to perform work tasks appears to be indicated; but there is a snag. Employees do not appear to believe that utilizing all their "flex" alternatives offered to them will have a zero effect on their career. Translation: workers think that if they utilize their flex alternatives, it will keep them dangling at the bottom of the corporate food chain. So, in other words the flexible programs are considered to be stagnating.

Advice If you have no plans of supporting the flex programs, do not even bother about implementing it! 3 words "Waste of Time" and underperforming workers - ugh!

If you plan to implement the flex programs, you should provide all the necessary support at every level of management - and do so with a lot enthusiasm!

You will need to understand that flexible programs will not solve every single problem. You will still need to do the following:

Ensure that you respect your employees and their ideas. Provide opportunities that allow them to grow and learn. You will also need to provide some sort of economic security. Give your employees a level of autonomy.

Adding a flex program to all the aforementioned will result in humungous advantages to the employer - lower health benefits, turnover and overall productivity.
