We have all heard the saying, 'pride comes before a fall', but what does it actually mean? We all need to be proud of ourselves and what we have achieved in our life. Everyone has achieved something even if it is just getting out of bed every morning. But you can have too much pride and that is where the danger begins.

Life is always changing. Society is developing and humans should also be developing with it. But you cannot develop if you have closed your mind to all knowledge. If you have too much pride you may feel that you know it all already but that is not true. If life and society keeps changing how could you possibly know it all? Knowledge is power but the more we learn, the more we should understand how little we actually know. If you don't make an effort to be positive and open minded you won't develop as a person. If you stop developing you start to wither up and die inside. It doesn't matter how much of an outwardly successful person you are, having too much pride leads to failure. You will lose track of what is important to you, your values and your feelings and that is the path to destruction.

Don't confuse believing in yourself with having too much pride. You need to have belief in your own abilities or you will never become successful. The latest brain research suggests that with enough self belief and positive thinking you can accomplish almost anything you set your mind to.

Look for the opportunity in every situation you are faced with and you will grow as a person. Success will happen not because you got lucky but because you opened your mind to the possibilities life can offer. If you were carrying too much pride, your mind would be closed to all these new chances and this would negatively affect your results.

Also having too much pride prevents us from asking other people for help and guidance. You do not need to be a pioneer in your road to success. Find other people who have been successful in your field and don't be too proud to ask them how they accomplished it. Don't be too proud to go into your library or bookstore and pick up some of the fantastic self help books on offer. Remember happiness is an indication of the contents of your mind so why not fill it with "I can do this" rather than "I know everything there is to know and don't need anyone else's help!"

Don't let fear of rejection hold you back. Yes, the person you ask for help may laugh at you and be dismissive but that says more about their over abundance of pride than it does you as a person.
