Dog Training Secret No. 4
The use of positive dog training is another dog training secret, and one that experts have found to be more effective than just a system of rewards and punishment. If you can have a dog who looks forward to training sessions because they are fun and full of rewards he will learn faster and better. Use praise or even a pat along with treats to reward his accomplishments. Along every step of the way as your dog learns new skills, you can reward him each time.
If he fails to respond the way you want, reexamine just what you are asking him to do and how you are asking him to do it. Different dog training methods work differently for one dog over another Before he can go on with more training lessons you and your dog might have to review some of the more basic dog training lessons. Use a stern NO, and use blocking movement with your hands, or withholding rewards when he doesn't perform instead of punishing him.
Remember to remain consistent when trying to get your dog to exhibit the behavior you want. Remember that it is in his nature (as well as yours) to want to test limits and see how much he can get away with. Consistency in dog training and rewards are what get positive results, not punishments.
Dogs are very much like humans in that they like to do things that are fun and make them feel good, where they get rewarded for doing what is asked of them. And they want the same thing their owners want, a happy and safe relationship with the ones they are love.
Understanding these dog training secrets will go a long way in making this happen.
