A very common way to help with weight loss is the practice known as colon cleansing or more precisely cleansing of the colon.

The colon is a remarkable organ contained in our body. It is situated between the cecum and the rectum and is responsible for extracting moisture from our diet before excreting the residue as waste.

The problem with the colon, which is about 6 feet long, is that it cannot discriminate between good substances and bad substances. When the colon absorbs moisture from the waste products of your diet it sucks out both good moisture and bad moisture. The longer the waste products stay in your digestive system then the more chance there is for bad things to be absorbed.

It is therefore sensible that the foodstuffs only stay in your body as long as is needed for the good nutrients to be absorbed and then excreted as soon as possible.

The poor diet that is generally consumed today in the form of fast food is full of sticky substances that stick to the small and large intestine wall and as a consequence pass slowly through the system thereby giving more opportunity for harmful substances to be absorbed.

It makes sense to help the colon out along the way and as surgical colon cleansing is an expensive and unpleasant experience then colon cleansing at home becomes quite an attractive proposition.

Now before people start thinking that they are going to be doing terrible things with the garden water hose there are ways to detox the colon from within the body rather than using external items.

Drinking colon cleansing tea is a great way of shifting the stubborn substances that are stuck in the colon and very refreshing too.

If you buy the right brand of tea bags then it can also be an organic colon cleanse as well which is particularly gentle on your system.

There are special colon cleansing herbs that can be used in your cooking and this will help with cleaning out your system.

Another not so pleasant way is to fast, the problem being is that at some time you will begin eating again and unless you change your diet to one with a healthier regime then the substances will build up once again.

Colon cleansing herbs are also naturally occurring and therefore healthy and many of these can be found in drinks such as a special herbal colon cleansing tea.
