A simple tool that you add to your website can boost your sales by up to 50%. It is installed once at the back end of your site and it goes to work continuously every time an upfront sale is completed. This wonder tool is known as the one-click-upsell.
Not all sales revenues are generated from up front sales. Most of the time, additional sales are made after the original sale is completed.
An upsell takes place when a buyer is asked whether he would like to purchase more immediately after he buys one of your products. An upsell works only if you have multiple products to sell to the same buyer, and you need to determine what you want to upsell ahead of time for the strategy to work.
Like all other marketing strategies, an upsell method requires proper execution to ensure success or to secure the original purchase of the buyer.
Here are some tips that marketing experts have shared regarding upsells:
1. Secure the original sales first. Offering an upsell requires proper timing. Take care not to offer another item to the buyer unless he has completed the first transaction. When a buyer is shown an upsell offer before paying for his original purchase, he may not only refuse to take the second offer, but worse, he may also abandon his first purchase altogether. In this scenario, you may easily lose two sales opportunities.
2. Add checkout button on sales page. Faster checkout hastens the purchase process especially for impulse buying. Place a checkout button close to the item being sold to immediately secure this first purchase.
3. Redirect to upsell page. Once your buyer has paid for the first product, he should be redirected to an upsell page that contains an offer to purchase another product.
4. Attach a "Yes" button to your one-click upsell page. Make the upsell easy for your buyer by adding a "Yes" button right below the offer. All the buyer has to do is click "yes" and the upsell product is automatically added to the first order. Since you have already captured the buyer's credit card or PayPal account information in the first transaction, there is no need for him to re-enter this information for the upsell to be completed. The additional sale is done in one click.
5. Add a downsell option. Don't let your buyer walk away after clicking "No, Thanks" in your upsell page. Your buyer may have declined your upsell offer due to its price or the lack of urgency. Program your one-click-upsell tool to redirect your buyer to a downsell page that will offer a lower-priced product or a limited offer he may not refuse.
