Roman blinds are stylish and elegant. An ideal choice for many windows, these blinds can also help make your home more eco-friendly. They provide insulation against the cool weather, protection from UV rays and are made from safe materials.

Insulation
Roman blinds are measured carefully to fit perfectly on your window. They will lie flat against the window when closed, creating an additional layer of insulation against cold air that creeps in through the glass. Because the blinds lay smoothly against the window frame when they are closed, they create a layer of inert air. You will reduce heat loss in the winter and it will be easier to cool the home in the summer.

Protection
The sun's rays can be damaging to your flooring, furnishings and other belongings. Over time, the streaming rays can discolour vinyl or wood and fade fabrics. Leaving the roman shades down when the sun is shining directly through a window will allow you to avoid this unnecessary damage. Once the sun has passed beyond the window, you can open the blind to let light in without bringing in the direct rays that are so damaging.

Reduce Energy Costs
Opening and closing the roman blinds will allow you to take greater control of the energy costs in your home. When the temperature is low, you will want to keep the blinds open, allowing the sunshine to pour into the space and add warmth. When the temperature outside rises, however, you will want to keep the blinds closed tightly against the sun. This will keep your home cooler and lower your cooling bills. In addition to enjoying lower energy costs, you will also be reducing your own carbon footprint.

The Right Materials
What really makes roman blinds environmentally friendly are the materials that are used in their construction. Unlike wood or plastic blinds, these fabric shades are free of dangerous chemicals like heavy metals, phenols or formaldehyde. The fabric is free of PVC, lead and halogen. Not only are they better for the environment, but they are also a better choice for maintaining great indoor air quality. Because they are made from soft, inviting fabric, you can also choose environmentally clean fabrics like hemp and even bamboo. Look for all natural cottons, organic silks and wool blends that will warm up your home by providing even more insulation.

Roman blinds are sophisticated and stylish. They create a crisp and clean look that you are sure to love and appreciate. They are also extremely functional as they work to lower your energy costs and reduce your carbon footprint. When it's time for new blinds in your home, look for the stylish Roman option that is also smart and green.
