A garage is a building typically designed to protect a vehicle. It may be used to provide shelter for cars or motorbikes. It may also be used as a workshop or as a storage space for tools and household items. A garage can be built from various materials. These include concrete, brick, metal or timber.

Wood is a versatile material. Buildings made of wood have a number of advantages compared to structures made of other materials. One of the natural benefits of wood is its high insulation value. Metal and concrete garages have poor insulation value and frequent condensation issues. They are generally very cold in the winter due to a high level of heat loss. A building made entirely from wood has minimal heat loss, no condensation or damp issues and good temperature regulation throughout the year. The absence of any condensation problems makes a timber structure ideal for the storage of household items. All garages typically have concrete floors.

The insulation wood provides has the added benefit of soundproofing the space. This can be useful, especially if the garage is used as a workshop for projects. Wooden buildings are generally secure. The contents of a timber garage can be as well protected from intruders as those of a building made of any other material.

Naturally warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, timber garages offer an excellent solution for those who want to use the space as a workshop or convert it into a study without installing dehumidifiers or heaters. Relatively low maintenance, if properly installed, wooden garages are long lasting, functional and elegant structures that will add to the value of any home. All garage hinges, bolts and doors should be inspected regularly to ensure they are in good working order. All movable parts should be cleaned and lubricated every few months. Repainting the timber exterior every two years will provide continuing waterproofing as well as lasting protection from the elements.

A warm and sturdy material, wood is aesthetically appealing. Ready-made made timber garages do exist, but they are also easy to tailor make to fit a particular style, home or budget. There is a large range of durable woods to choose from, each offering different colours and styles. Staining and treating a particular type of wood can also bring out different shades, so the choice of colours for a wooden structure is vast. This can add a personal touch to any building.

Door options include up and over, side hinged sectional and round the corner. Timber doors can be manual or automatic and are typically easy to assemble and install. A wooden garage can add an element of beauty and sophistication that will complement your home.
