IT departments and contractors keep an eye on a company's current technology, its capacity and its limitations. A business' overall growth plan must also be taken into consideration, as should the hi-tech landscape and what new technologies are over the horizon. By considering all these factors, technology providers can plan hardware and software projects and manage upgrades proactively, ensuring a business' future technological needs are always met.
Establishment of Corporate IT Policy
IT departments don't only work with hardware and software. They are also heavily involved in the bureaucracy of a company's day-to-day business. A key function of this is providing expert advisory services in the area of establishing corporate IT policy. IT policies and procedures establish guidelines for how a company's staff utilizes its technology resources. Management, while adept at writing policy and coordinating staff, often lack the technical expertise to formulate thorough technology policy. IT services departments can bridge this "knowledge gap" by giving input and providing explanations to help corporate managers write suitable IT policy.
Servers, infrastructure, security, project planning and policy writing are just a few areas where IT service departments and contractors assist a business. They are not typically considered when a company thinks about IT services, but they are essential to any business' survival and ongoing growth.
