Whenever foreign visitors are asked precisely what do they like best in the Philippines, most of the people would tell you it is the local people themselves. Tourists could not help but be fascinated by the Filipinos' friendliness demonstrated through their charming smiles so automatically showed off even to strangers.

Besides the people's hospitality, tourists to the country would likely list second the Philippine recipes in setting up delectable dishes alongside the Filipino cheery nature. After all, offering delectable Philippine meals go side-by-side with pleasantness of the Filipino smile to comprise the overall Filipino warmth. Smiles offer pretty much the typical message of happiness for everyone from every nation as well as community. Food, on the other hand, is a different story because residents from different cities within the Philippines or foreign countries have unique tastes.

So why do Non-Filipino travelers find the Filipino food usually likable? One reason could be that the Philippines has a different mix of culture. It is the melting pot of ethnicities for many generations. They have a beautiful mix of caucasian, hispanic, oriental and Malay in between. Which is why the Philippine cooking also has a superb combination. The effect of the spicy east and the refined west, as well as everything in between. So it is no wonder that many people from western countries would come back for more Philippine recipe cooking, even if they are located at the other side of the earth.

The main difference of the Filipino dish compared to the Western countries is that it has a dish that combines or blends different food styles in one recipe. This dish is called "pochero". Europeans and American generally have a more segregated cooking. They have the soup, then vegetables, then the meat and lastly the fruit. The pochero is actually a beef stew together with cabbage, green beans not to mention potatoes with banana blended thoroughly in soup-like tomato sauce. It has a mixture of salty, sour and sweet taste relished along with other basic spices just like pepper.

This sort of Philippine mixed food is a symbol of the value of "unity in diversity" prevalent in the country's multi-ethnic culture. The way Filipinos cook shows their capability to bring everybody into a harmonious relationship of shared view understanding. This particular dish is the type of cooking that beautifully combines many different food choices and the taste of tranquility is only gained in this country's enlightening society.

Tourists who come to the country could say that they love the Philippine recipe as well as the Filipino cheery personality.
