Back in the 1970s California was at crisis point with its pollution levels. The cloud of smog that hovered over its major cities was causing huge health issues for its citizens, particularly children. The increases in respiratory problems, including asthma, in children was of great concern to health workers, especially as it affected kids from lower income families.

It turns out that the reason for this is that poorer families tended (and still do) live closer to freeways and highways, and industrial areas.

While no one could claim that California's smog had vanished, it has been dramatically reduced. This came about because the California Government laid down the law to the gasoline companies. These multi-million dollar, multi national companies were told that if they wanted to operate in California, then they would have to make their fuel burn more efficiently and cause less pollution.

It was not difficult for those companies, like Chevron and Shell, to comply with this mandate. You see, they already had the technology to do exactly that. The reason they had not used it was simple: If fuel burns more efficiently, cars would get more miles per gallon from each tank. This in turn means that they would need to fill up less often - and you guessed it, the gas companies would lose money.

They did not want consumers to get cheaper petrol, which in effect they would because they would spend less each week, month or year on fuel costs, even if the price at the pump remained unchanged. So they made fuel more fuel efficient, but only just enough to comply with the emissions standards in California.

What's great is that now you can tap into this technology to get its full benefits. Not only will you greatly reduce the exhaust pollution from you vehicle (because your engine is burning the fuel more efficiently), but your car will actually run better because it will become self-lubricating and self-cleaning. This will increase your engine's life and get an increase in mileage per gallon of at least 19%! That equates to saving around 80 cents per gallon at today's prices.

Thousands of Americans are using this technology, marketed as Ethos Fuel Reformulator (FR), but many others are wary because they have been taken for a ride by buying "fuel additives" in the past. Fuel reformulators are not like these products, and is only available from specially selected distributors.

To easily see how much unburnt gas is generated by your engine, run your finger around the inside of your tail pipe (make sure its not hot first!). Your finger will be covered in black smudge. This is the residue of unburnt gas - gas that you paid good money for. Around 20% of the fuel you buy goes out your tail pipe as carbon waste. Bad for your pocket, and bad for the environment.

Can you afford to waste $8 of every $40 fill you do?

Do you want to help the environment by reducing the emissions from your vehicle?
