There are many things we can spend our money on, from day to day subsistence to longer term strategic financial planning and presents. Whenever we do splash the cash we expect a return on our investment. Here are a few sensible ways to get a worthwhile return that aren't FSA regulated.

1. Health and Fitness

With obesity rates seemingly always on the rise and a plethora of tempting and unhealthy foods available for consumption, it can take real willpower not to succumb to an unhealthy lifestyle. However, if you have the finances - and they're not huge - by joining a gym you can make sure you have a longer life, and while you're living it, a less painful one. If you struggle with motivation for going then you can take up a sport which is fitness intensive, such as triathlon, cycling or running to give that little extra bit of motivation to keep going.

If you don't want to compete then hiring a personal trainer once a week or fortnight can work wonders for your attendance rates, as not only do you have to go when they are due to take you but they will also cajole you into going more often by setting targets that you'll want to make.

2. Garden

If you enjoy the outdoors and all the health benefits they give you then spending plenty of time outside in the garden can be a wonderful way to get that extra fresh air. Furthermore, by having a task to complete you can get a real feeling of satisfaction by having achieved something so impressive.

If you need help with your garden you can always hire a professional, such as a tree surgeon or general gardener, who will happily show you exactly how you can make the most of the space you have available to you so that the results are even more impressive.

3. Education

With university fees about to spiral beyond what a lot of people are able to afford or are willing to risk, it is important to look to other places to pick up skills and qualifications. Distance learning courses can be a great place to start and there is the huge resource that is the internet that constantly educates if used in the right way.

As you can see these are just a few things that deserve your investment for a happier and longer life. What else do you consider to be worth investing in?
