There are several articles out there today that offers informative tips on how to be successful with an online business. One of the main things many of them talk about is driving traffic or generating it. So it's safe to say that the main staple is getting traffic or else you don't have a successful business. Even though you can have a great product, and the best customer service around, the center of the puzzle is all about the traffic.

The main goal is to figure out how you can be in front of your rival at all times. If you hesitate or slack off even momentarily, your competitors are going to pass you by.

In order to help you build traffic I wanted to spend a few moments and go over a few things that will help.

1) Learn to Invest in Advertising

When you spend money on advertising it doesn't mean you have to invest a lot in the beginning. The idea is to generate good, wholesome traffic and two of the best places to start are Google Adwords and Yahoo's Overture. These are what people call "pay per click" advertising and there are tons of benefits to utilizing this system.

2) Exchange Links

When you're able to exchange links with other sites you can profit tremendously from the efforts. Both parties will be able to build traffic with ease. Oh, and make sure you exchange with individuals who have similar site themes and niches. For instance maybe you are promoting youth baseball bats and the site owner you are exchanging with is advertising baseball pants or maybe hats.

3) Apply Viral Marketing

If you haven't used viral marketing it's a great way to build traffic with little or no cost at all. Most people consider it a "sneaky" technique because it allows you to create an online presence by attaching the company's name, product, or link to a video, a game, gossipy articles, and a plethora of other options. These are usually the things that people enjoy emailing or forwarding links to one another.

4) Use the Right Keywords

It's important to find the right keywords for your niche because it allows you to build higher rankings in Search engine results, which means more traffic. Try to get to the front page, and the top half if you can.

5) Author Articles

Article marketing is another great way to build your business. All you have to do is write some compelling content, proofread them (you can use Microsoft Word), and submit them to various sites like Ezine Articles.

6) Join Bulletin Boards

Even though bulletin boards won't produce the most substantial gains, they are still important to utilize. You can take advantage of these to show off your expertise and trust factor. One thing you can never have enough of is trust when it comes to owning a website.

7) Provide Newsletters

One way to continually keep up with the traffic is providing newsletters to visitors and subscribers. All they have to do is fill out their name and a valid email address and you can continue to contact them each week. This is what we call "loyal traffic" and many of them will turn into sales down the road.

Just by taking advantage of these small techniques will allow you to grow more traffic for your website.
