The workplace is becoming an ever more exhausting place. It's a well known that for most of us working hours are on the increase and that leisure time seems to have become increasingly elusive. With the advent of mobile technology it's even become difficult to escape work after you've finished for the day. All this means that when they do manage to extricate themselves from their daily commitments and enjoy a bit of a break, relaxation and an opportunity to replenish the batteries have become priorities for the stressed modern worker. The idea of a spa-based holiday and the chance to luxuriate in a bit of pampering is understandably proving increasingly popular.

The appeal of a spa break is that it offers an oasis of calm where it's possible to retreat from whatever stresses and strains plague your everyday working life and allow yourself a rare opportunity to be looked after whilst indulging in any number of treatments, whether they aim to relax or invigorate. So if you want your next holiday to feel like a genuine break maybe its time you thought about a visit to a spa resort. The aim, ultimately, is to emerge replenished and reinvigorated and there are a multitude of treatments that should get you well on the way. Here's a brief guide to some of the delights that could await you:

• Facial treatments – Everyday life can subject the skin on your face to a bit of a battering, denying it the opportunity to regenerate and leaving you looking worn and unhealthy. Improving your skin's tone and elasticity and helping your face appear more fresh and youthful than it has for years; facial treatments can also be a blissfully relaxing experience. Good news all-round! Reduce the effects of aging and bring back that long forgotten luminosity with a wide range of treatments including collagen to re-hydrate your skin, hot stones to boost circulation and aid cell rejuvenation and cleansing herbal treatments to moisturise and exfoliate.

• Body treatments – For all-over, rejuvenating indulgence sample a few of the ever expanding range of body treatments. Any number of scrubs wraps and polishes are available in most spas these days to leave your body feeling relieved, invigorated and renewed as well as looking and feeling better than ever. After treating yourself to a few of the massages, baths and therapies generally on offer you should be able to return to normal life feeling refreshed and ready for anything.

• Treatments for hands and feet – There's something uniquely relaxing about having your hands and feet pampered. So quite apart from helping to deal with those unsightly blemishes that can accumulate every day, hand and foot treatments can be a particularly therapeutic, soothing experience. Most spas will offer a broad selection of treatments ranging from ancient reflexology techniques to luxurious pedicures and manicures.

All in all a break at a spa resort is a thoroughly modern type of holiday, acknowledging the increased bustle and stress of contemporary life and offering a fleeting bubble of rejuvenating indulgence to escape to.

The Starwood Spa Collection is one of the world’s largest associations of premier-level spas. Our Spa Resorts are now featured in 26 countries across six continents.
