My wife Diane is an Avon rep who likes to make money online with her website. This is a part time thing for her because she likes several of their products and a few of her friends buy from her.
There has always been one thing that really impressed me about Avon. Everytime Diane gets an order the box is larger than it needs to be for the products shipped to her.
Why is that? Because with every order comes a bunch of catalogs and pamphlets promoting more products.
Everyone used to laugh about the Avon lady ringing your doorbell, but this concept worked. It still does to a certain extent because Avon is a promoting machine.
Every two weeks they are out with a new catalog for a new campaign. You can be sure that it contains specials and discounts that customers want to take advantage of.
What makes this work is the Avon representative is getting the catalog out in the field. Avon makes this very easy to do because they constantly remind the rep to order brochures, and they even throw in a few free ones in case they forgot to order.
Avon is by far the largest direct selling company in the world with annual sales of over $11 billion. Much of their business has moved online like every other company.
They continue to kick everyone else's butt when it comes to marketing through their bi-monthly brochures that are updated for each new campaign.
Does your Internet business even have special offers? How do you notify your customers about them?
From what I've seen some people do try to build an email list. Of course this is a great way to make money when you have something new to announce to your list.
Social media is also changing the way marketing is being done. I see this all the time in the article marketing I do with articles I write and submit the article directories.
These articles can quickly be sent to a social networking site such as my Facebook account, or Twitter. The same thing is true when you make a blog post.
You can bookmark your post using Only Wire and it will be sent to some of the top social directories on the Internet. It can also be sent directly to social networking sites again including Facebook and Twitter.
Making money has always come back to marketing first and sales second. If you want to do a better job with your Internet business focus on coming up with new ways to market what your company has to offer.
