Very few of us sit down and write articles because it is something we love to do. It certainly helps if you enjoy writing articles, but most of us do it for the benefits our Internet business receives.

Here are a few tips on how you can become more profitable with article writing.

1. Stay focused. You want to make every word you write count.

When people read articles on the Internet they have a short attention span. Your job as an article writer is to keep the attention of the reader by writing in the most effective way.

Because you are going to be submitting articles to online directories you need to be a between 400 and 500 words. Don't fill your articles with unnecessary words or fancy words by trying to show off.

2. Be unique. Duplicate content is obviously out today. Search engines will actually penalize your website if you are putting content on it that is already online somewhere else.

Write unique articles and get them submitted to the article directories. Make sure all of the words you write or your own.

3. Write about current events. There are plenty of things going on in the world today that relate to your niche.

The best articles people are reading are things that are timely. I like discussion forums as a place to get ideas for articles.

The threads that have the most discussions going on in them are excellent possibilities for articles. If they are that popular in a discussion forum chances are they will be very popular when you get them in an article directory well.

4. SEO. Search engine optimization is a great way to drive more traffic to your website from articles.

Write around specific keyword phrases that people are searching for. Use the free tool from Google Adwords to come up with keyword phrases that are being searched every day by regular people just like you and me.

5. Write and submit more. Most of us just do not get enough content online to really benefit from article writing and marketing.
