An authority website is one that has the power to influence people within a specific niche. It has achieved the status of an authority site based on several factors. All of these take an investment of time and money so most people never get their own websites to this level.

Over time if you stick with it building an authority site can really pay off. Here are a few tips on doing that.

1. Niche specific. It is possible to build an authority site within a specific niche. This is actually the best way to approach it today because you are literally several years behind established websites in broader niches.

Being niche specific gives you the advantage of ranking faster on Google. There will still be plenty of keywords you can target to help develop your niche. Over time you will find yourself ranking on Google for literally hundreds of keyword phrases.

2. Quality content. Authority websites contain a lot of good content. These are not micro-niche sites of 5 to 10 pages only.

It takes a lot of time to develop a large content website. This is one of the reasons it continues to rank high with Google even as other websites rise and fall.

Google appreciates the effort you put into developing quality content. These are not webpages built with rehashed private label rights articles.

What you want to do is build your webpages around 100% unique content. Add graphics, links to other websites, and links to your inner pages to add value to each page.

3. Backlinks. Google views a backlink as a vote for your website. The more backlinks you get the more valuable your site is in the eyse of Google.

One thing to keep in mind is a backlink from a webpage that has a high page rank is more valuable than numerous low page rank backlinks. This is something that takes time to build up and is another component to creating an authority website.

4. Monetizing your site. I personally like Google Adsense because it's adding value to the web pages on your site. Google does a great job of matching advertisers to the theme of each individual page.

As long as you're not monetizing your site with competing programs to Google Adsense you can make money online in more than one way if you want.

It's very common to see Amazon products, ClickBank products, or even niche specific affiliate products on a webpage. Anything that adds value to the search of the visitor is a good way for you to make money and to add authority to your pages.

There's much more that we could write on authority websites. Once you get a website ranked you will find that it stays there longer. It doesn't suffer from the constant algorithm changes Google puts the Internet through on a regular basis.
