Driving website traffic is one of those Internet marketing phrases that is extremely important. In simple terms it means marketing online to get website visitors.

This is something you can do or hirer someone to do for you. We know this is extremely important because your Internet business will fail without enough website traffic.

Think of it like a retail store in the mall. If you do not have people coming into your store you are never going to make any sales.

Every day people walk by your store, and some of them coming in based on either your product line, or promotions you are doing in the store window.

The same thing is true for your Internet business. There are many ways to drive traffic to your site. These include paid advertising and free website traffic methods. I always tell people to focus on a couple and become experts on them.

You can have the most beautiful website in the world, but if nobody ever sees it you will not make money. I personally became an expert on driving traffic to my website through article marketing.

Over the years I've also added blogging and video marketing to the mix. Search engine optimization has always been a big part of getting website traffic as well.

Finding the keywords that people search for online every day is extremely important. When you know what people are searching for you can attack those keyword phrases and work at ranking on a search engine for them.

Today many Internet marketers prefer to hire somebody to do this for them. I know our Hands Off Article Marketing program has become popular with local business owners.

You can pay somebody to do keyword research and get your site ranked. Backlinks are a big part of this and you can hire somebody to work on that as well.

A backlink is where you get your website URL on somebody else's website. Think of this as a vote for your site. The more votes you get the more popular your site is in the eyes of search engines.

The other thing that comes into play is the page rank of the site your link is on. Google puts more emphasis on a quality backlink than they do on a high number of backlinks. Keep that in mind if you're going to pay somebody to get backlinks for you.

When working at driving website traffic you need to consider both your personal time and money. If you do not have a lot of money to invest you can compensate for that by investing your time. As you begin to make money you can then reinvest some of your profits back into paid marketing.
