To make money online with a website you need visitors. This is also known as getting traffic to your site.

You can pay for it and get it fast, or you can use free methods and save money. This may take longer, but you can generate website traffic for free by just investing a little bit of your time.

Here are 6 ideas on how to do that. I know these work because I have been successfully doing them for many years now!

1. Forum marketing. I built our article writing business from scratch doing this. We get traffic to several sites including content writer, article writer, and Hands Off Article Marketing.

I have always loved the Warrior Forum. Big-Boards.com is a good site to visit and find forums relating to your own niche.

2. Email newsletter. You will need to pay for an autoresponder which runs around $20 a month.

The rest of the things you need to do email marketing can be done for free. This includes building a list, sending out quality information on the regular basis, and either selling products or driving traffic back to your website in every issue you publish.

3. Article marketing. Writing and submitting articles is something anyone can learn how to do.

In spite of the changes made by Google, and other search engines relating to fresh content, article marketing is still a good way to get backlinks and drive traffic to any site. If you consistently write and submit articles this is a good long-term traffic generation strategy.

4. Blogging. Write and post short blog articles. Publish them online and bookmark your post using a submission tool such as Only Wire.

Build an RSS Feed subscriber list to get repeat traffic. You can also build your email list from your blog by putting a sign-up form above the fold where people can find it.

5. Article video marketing. Use an article video converter such as Article Video Robot.

This is an easy way to create a video out of your articles. You can also submit your new videos to shared video sites such as You Tube with the click of one button.

6. SEO. I always use search engine optimization in every form of marketing I do.

The most important thing you can do is develop a big keyword list relating to the theme of your business. hen use these key words in all of your marketing to generate traffic for free.
